The Goddess Chamundeshwari, who is believed to be an incarnation of Shiva’s wife, Parvati, is the subject of and the name of the Chamundeshwari Temple, a traditional Hindu temple. It is one of the oldest temples in the capital city of Mysore and is situated on the Chamundi hills on the eastern fringe of the city at a remarkable height of 1000 feet. History

This temple has a long history dating back more than a thousand years. It was initially constructed as a straightforward shrine, but as goddess Durga’s divinity spread, it rapidly grew in popularity. Three dynasties—the Hoysala, Vijayanagar, and Mysore rulers—are credited with making significant contributions to this temple. Timings

The temple is open from 7:30 AM – 2:00 PM, 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM, and from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM. Timings for temple’s Pooja and Darshana.

While Abhisheka is held from 6:00 – 7:30 AM and from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Although the hours are different on Fridays, from 5:00 AM to 6:30 AM. Additionally, the temple provides free meals, known as Dasoha, to its followers every day from 12:30 – 2:30 PM.

Best Time for Visiting

From September through October, Chamundi Hills provide the most sweeping views of Mysore. Even though the weather is quite beautiful all year long, the Dussehra and Diwali festivals draw a lot of touristto the temple in September and October. You can visit the temple both in the morning and in the evening.

Places to visit close to Chamundeshwari Temple

• The Nandi Statue

One single piece of black granite rock was used to sculpt the complete statue. Just a short distance from the monument is a modest Shiva shrine.

• Mahabaleswara Temple

The oldest temple in this area is this one, which was built in 950 AD. The temple, which is dedicated to Shiva, also has statues of Parvathi, the Sapta Matrikas, Nataraja, Mahishamardhini, and Dakshina Murthy.
